CITIZENS FOR THE RESTORATION OF HISTORICAL LA MOTT
1618 WILLOW AVENUE
LA MOTT, PA 19027
Dear Friend:
The goal of
The Citizens for the
Restoration of Historical La Mott (CROHL), a 501c3 tax exempt organization, is to preserve
the historical community heritage of La Mott, located in Cheltenham Township, Montgomery
County, Pennsylvania.
This community stands as an important landmark in American history.
It was one of the first communities to encourage integrated living and represents a
turning point in the social and racial development of residential communities in the
post-Civil War era.
Camp
William Penn, the country's first Federal training camp for colored
troops was established in La Mott in 1863. Eleven Regiments were trained
here.
A Museum to honor and preserve the
legacy of the United States Colored Troops who trained here has been
established.
Regretfully the museum is closed
temporarily until the renovations which are needed to bring the building
up to code are complete. When we have completed bringing the building
"up-to-code" it will be re-opened to visitors.
In the meanwhile, from June '06
to Jan '07 there will be a Camp William Penn Exhibit at the Richard Wall
House Museum in Elkins Park, PA. (1 Wall Park Drive opposite the
Walgreens on Church road). Open from 1:00 to 4:00 PM on Sundays.
We are in the midst of raising
funds to make the necessary renovations. As funds become available, work
is being done on our building.
Contributions are certainly
welcome. If you would like to help us, please send a check payable to:
